The Full Story

Ella Taker is a Vancouver-based first nations artist raised on the beautiful coast of BC. She incorporates emotions into vivid abstract realism paintings that explore moments of freedom, individuality, and connection.

Ella’s paintings are an elaborate exploration of the individual and a bright connection to the earth. The intricacies of nature fascinate her and weave into many of her paintings in a unique way.  Her optimistic and bright disposition pours onto the canvas as vibrant juicy colours.

Her passion for adventures often takes her backpacking the world. Through her life she has continued to connect with new places; bringing an appreciation for culture, colours, and elements of nature from around the world into her artistic practice.

Process

Each painting starts with big, bold, messy brushstrokes that she calls her “monster” style, as each painting resembles a monster in the early layers. Paintings are refined through many layers of brushstrokes in oil paint that creates a depth. A completed painting has a semi-refined, semi-abstract aesthetic.
